About

Hanzi Deschermeier is a video editor, writer, and storyteller with a deep focus in the outdoor industry.

He is an alumnus of St. Lawrence University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in history in 2009.  In 2015, Hanzi received his master’s in digital media and storytelling from Loyola University of Chicago. His photography and editing portfolio includes projects in fine art, advertising, television, and photojournalism. Some of his still images have appeared in F-Stop Magazine, Light Journal, The Financial Times, Land Investor Magazine, The Santa Barbara Independent, the former Dominican Cloister of San Vito dei Normanni, and PH21 Gallery.

Though Hanzi’s interest in the power of stories has been lifelong, his professional attraction to the craft emerged while living and studying in Chicago, where he was introduced to photojournalism. His artistic interests draw from the field of documentary photography in order to explore notions of place, home, and community. With an extensive background in hunting, fishing, and backcountry skiing, he finds continuing inspiration in wild places and the outdoors.

Hanzi is a video editor for MeatEater. He lives with his wife in Bozeman, MT.
